BOOK IT FOR BOOKS 5K/ONE-MILE FUN RUN October 28, 2023
WHAT?
Book It For Books is RIF of NOVA's biannual fund- and fun-raiser! And it's back! The date: October 28, 2023. Book It is an in-person event at Bluemont Park in Arlington, Virginia. There is also a virtual option. If you live far away but still want to support NOVA RIF and the kids we serve, you can choose the virtual option and run or walk anywhere you want! WHERE?
Bluemont Park, 329 N. Manchester Street, Arlington, VA 22203 (Note: The race start is across the field from the tennis courts. Parking is available near the race start and on the streets nearby.)
WHY?
Why do we host a biannual 5K/One-Mile Run/Walk? As an organization, this is how we fund the majority of book purchases for the children we serve. We have no other funding sources other than what we raise through the biannual Book It For Books, an online fund-raising campaign held during the in-between years, and grants from generous businesses, foundations, and individuals.
WHY BOOKS?
Books change lives! According to a U.S. Department of Education survey published on the Scholastic website, nearly two-thirds of low-income families they studied owned no books for their children. Does this matter? YES! The survey continues: “The only behavior measure that correlates significantly with reading scores is the number of books in the home.” Fortunately, RIF of NOVA's goal is to provide books to vulnerable children. With your Book It For Books sponsorships and donations, we can continue to provide books to over 20,000 children in Northern Virginia.

Please register to walk or run by Friday, October 13, 2023 to be guaranteed a race t-shirt.
