PLEASE DONATE TO RIF OF NOVA
Three Options: Funding, Time, Books!
Members of the public can help RIF of NOVA to do its work in three major ways: Giving funding, giving time, and giving books. Due to the pandemic, many children in our community are still far behind and will need more books to simply catch up, so your donations of funding, time, and books are particularly key at this critical time. Each donation makes a major difference!
Giving funding:
Our most pressing need each year is to raise funds to purchase new books for 20,000 underserved children at the 30+ schools and sites we serve. All schools are Title 1 schools, which means that the school has high numbers of low-income students. Each child served is able to choose at least one book to take home annually -- important because children who choose their own books are three times more likely to be frequent readers. According to the U.S. Department of Education, "The only behavior measure that correlates significantly with reading scores is the number of books in the home. The NOVA RIF Books for Keeps program begins to address this critical need. Members of the public can help with this need by giving donations themselves, helping to identify and connect with potential donors (individuals, foundations, businesses, etc.), providing hands-on help with fundraising activities, such as our biannual 5K Book It For Books, and helping to communicate the dire need for books for children in the NOVA community. Ideas for giving funds can be found on our Give Funds page. As you can see from these photos, when a child gets a book, joy results! |
Giving time:
Among those needed are volunteers with backgrounds or skills in fundraising, event planning, social media expansion, program development, grant writing, nonprofit leadership, and community engagement. Time contributions can range from helping with a specific project or event to joining our board for a more sustained commitment. Anyone with these skills or interests is encouraged to contact RIF of NOVA at our email address: [email protected]. Ideas for giving time can be found on our Give Time page. Giving books:
Volunteers are needed to organize new/gently used book drives, to sort books for quality, and to help give books at schools and community events. As of summer 2024, our "Gently Used Book Program" had taken in over 35,000 new and almost-new books for redistribution -- not only to established NOVA RIF schools and sites but also to additional community partners and schools seeking reading materials for children and families. Ideas for and photographs of giving books can be found on our Give Books page.
TO DONATE BOOKS:
If you have new or like-new gently used books to give or if you would like to set up a book drive to collect books for RIF of NOVA, please click this link for details on how to do so!
TO REQUEST BOOKS:
While the primary focus of RIF of NOVA is to raise funds to provide new books for 36 schools and sites throughout Northern Virginia, our gently used book program is allowing to share book love with other community partners. If you are a non-profit organization needing books for the children in your programs, we will try to help. Click here for information about how to GET BOOKS!

Please note: As an all-volunteer organization with no salaries, our administrative costs are kept to an absolute minimum. In fiscal year 2022 (the most recent tax year available), administrative costs were just six percent of total expenses. An interest-bearing account covers those expenses, which means that your donations go directly to providing books.
RIF of NOVA is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are 100% tax deductible as allowed by law. |
