ABOUT US -- WHO WE ARE
Reading Is Fundamental of Northern Virginia, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to motivate children to read by providing them with high-quality, free books of their choosing and to work alongside them, their parents, and their community to make reading a fun and meaningful part of their lives. Since 1972 -- over 50 years -- we have provided books to underserved children in Northern Virginia. As an all-volunteer organization, fundraising to purchase books is a major element in our work.
Through our Books for Keeps program, RIF of NOVA board members and other volunteers work together with school liaisons to distribute free books to 20,000 + children who attend schools, day care centers, and Head Start programs in the City of Alexandria and in Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William counties. Thousands more books are distributed through our gently-used book program. Our goal is to motivate children to read and share books with their family and friends. We strive to put the FUN into reading for young children! We'd love for you to volunteer some of your time or make a donation to help the next generation of readers discover the magic of books.
