HOLIDAY BOOK RESOURCES FOR CHILDREN
With the winter holidays upon us, parents, grandparents, teachers, aunts, uncles, and cousins may be looking for books to read to children. Please find lists of ideas below to get your reading started. And if you have more ideas for this page, please let us know at [email protected].
• The New York Public Library offers a brief selection of holiday stories for children in various languages, including bilingual books to celebrate the end of the year holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. Find that here!
• Love to Know, an information site on a variety of topics for internet users, has curated a list of 31 multi-cultural holiday books. So many ideas here!
• Here Wee Read offers a list of 20 multicultural books about Thanksgiving, found here. The website also provides what it calls "the ultimate list of diverse Christmas children's books" to read during the holiday season. If you would like to see it, click here!
• From historical details to the spirit of gratitude and togetherness, these 10 titles curated by Scholastic cover all aspects of the Thanksgiving holiday.
• The Everymom has developed a list of 19 culturally sensitive Thanksgiving books that are fun for kids. Also on that site, a wide-ranging list of holiday books. Look no further than here!
• The Children's Book Review has put together a list of the best new Hanukkah books for 2020, adding to its previous best-of list. Also on the site, a list of the best new Christmas books for 2020.
• Multicultural Children's Book Day has curated a list of diverse children's books to celebrate the Jewish holidays.
• Mama Knows It All has a list of 10 Christmas books geared for all readers but especially focused on African American children.
• Feminist Books for Kids has curated a list of 11 books about the holidays. The books include a range of themes, from a family with two dads to Santa's after-Christmas plans to celebrate Kwanzaa! The site also features a list of 8 picture books with a Black Santa Claus.
• The Huffington Post has curated a list of 11 holiday books for children that go beyond Christmas. Find that list here.
