RIF of NOVA is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022! For 50 years, we have been providing books to deserving children in our community -- the City of Alexandria and Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William counties. During that time, we have given hundreds of thousands books to children who need them the most, contributing to learning, literacy, and the love of reading and books!
On October 20, NOVA RIF held its Golden Gala -- One for the Books to raise funding and awareness about the need for books to fight illiteracy in our community. Corporations, foundations, and individuals joined in to help, and the event was a smashing success.
Keynote Speaker, author David Baldacci, talked about the criticality of reading to sustaining democracy. Dr. Ingrid Bynum, principal of Patrick Henry K-8 School in Alexandria, talked about the importance of at least one book for every child. NBC-4's Jummy Olabanji emceed the event, which also included 20 Guest Authors in a celebration of children's literacy. A few photos below capture the flavor of the Gala. More photos can be found by clicking here! Our thanks are enormous to everyone who helped make RIF of NOVA's Golden Gala such an incredible celebration of 50 years of providing books for Northern Virginia children! |
