Thank you from RIF of NOVA! The 2021 Book It For Books
5K/One-Mile Run/Walk was a grand success!
5K/One-Mile Run/Walk was a grand success!
Thanks to our most amazing community of sponsors, donors, runners, walkers, and committed volunteers, 2021's RIF of NOVA Book It for Books 5K/One-Mile Run/Walk was a terrific success. On a sunny Saturday morning in October, almost 200 runners and walkers gathered at Bluemont Park in Arlington to run or walk to provide books to Northern Virginia area children. Dozens more ran or walked virtually!
We are over the moon with our community and its commitment to our purpose -- to provide books to deserving children who have few, or even no, books in their homes. You have provided some wonderful children a chance to choose a book of their very own to read and share with their families. Thank you! Thank you! Just a few photos are included below; more can be found by clicking here.

Several sponsors deserve a special shout-out, including our very first ever Nobel Prize for Literature sponsor, Deloitte! The Vineyard Family Foundation sponsored at the Pulitzer Prize Plus level, and REQ, Cavalier, and Lucky Dog Films participated at the Pulitzer level. Bookworm Central donated books at the Pulitzer level. A full list of 2021 sponsors can be found at this link. Thank you to all who have joined in to promote books and literacy in our community!
Why a 5K? So we can fund books for NOVA children!

And what does one book mean? It turns out that involvement in a RIF book program can change a life. Please listen to Ingrid Bynum, principal of Patrick Henry K-8 School in Alexandria, during an interview at her school's NOVA RIF book distribution in October. Plus, as Principal Bynum points out, because NOVA RIF provided books, parents at her school were not "forced to choose between essential reading material and food."
$3 = one book = one child!
If you'd like to help, please send a check to the post office box listed below or click here or on the Donate box on any page to donate online. Your generous donations to the cause of literacy for children in our region will be most gratefully appreciated.
Because of you, RIF of NOVA kids will be able to choose books of their own, even in a pandemic!
With sincerest thanks,
Members of the Board, Reading is Fundamental of Northern Virginia

"Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams
and more reading helped me make my dreams come true." -- Ruth Bader Ginsburg
"Children should learn that reading is pleasure, not just something that teachers make you do in school."
-- Beverly Cleary
